We are faced with numerous local and global water-related challenges. Water scientists are increasingly asked to provide information to develop appropriate water management policies. However, hydrological research is frequently restricted by limited data availability.
The goal of the CrowdWater project is to develop a cheap and easy method of data collection that can be used to accurately predict floods and low flow. Scientists in Switzerland now want to assess the reliability of crowdsourced data compared to conventional measurements from gauging stations.
You can help by submitting hydrology data via the CrowdWater app for Android or iOS. The app will guide you through the measurement process and you can view all submitted measurements online.
In the long-term, the scientists at CrowdWater hope that this crowdsourced measurement approach can be transferred to countries that do not have many conventional gauging stations, such as developing countries.
